A 50-year-old Range Rover

The ‘world’s most luxurious SUV’ is now over 50 years old ! First generation Range Rovers started production in 1970.  It is an iconic vehicle that changed motoring ! A unique mix of on road luxury and off-road ruggedness.

As you can see the first Range Rover was only available in a 3-door model. The 5-door model did not come along until 1981. The boxy shape is simple but strong with a clamshell hood, split tailgate and straight sides.

It still looks magnificent !  

The original interior was very comfortable with lots of space and high-quality materials. Only fitting then that this should continue even now. This one has been re-trimmed with Stretch Suede in Tan and it goes well with the blue exterior colour.

A 3.5 litre V8 engine gives it the power for both highways and rough roads and it was the first vehicle to have 4 Wheel Drive.

This Range Rover Classic was very popular and appealed to a broad spectrum of motorists. From farmers to city centre drivers. Both practical and luxurious which was a novel idea at the time.  

Now a collector’s favourite, there is a strong community of fans who restore them. One of our customers was kind enough to send photos in of their restoration project.

Even today the first-generation Range Rover is admired.

It set the standard for SUV’s that continues today.
