Black backing is an important feature that prevents light penetration and increases reflectivity for sharper colours.
Please note in photos and videos the screen has been draped over an existing 4K XY screen. You can see the edges of the drape. This gives you an excellent indicator of the screen quality. It's been specifically engineered for DIY screen makers allowing you to create a stunning screen at a fraction of the cost.
